Description

Dive and Leap Through Queenstown inside a Robotic Shark

Looking for a unique addition to your South Island itinerary? If you want to break up your driving days with a massive burst of adrenaline, this semi-submersible shark ride in Queenstown is the ultimate way to experience Lake Wakatipu.

Millions of people have watched YouTube videos of this futuristic watercraft  and now you have the opportunity to strap into the cockpit yourself. Operating from a central berth right on the Queenstown lakefront, Hydro Attack takes you on an adrenaline-packed tour across the crystal-clear waters of New Zealand’s longest lake.

Looking through the fighter-grade glass cockpit, you will see the sky disappear as your expert pilot descends into a deep underwater dive before launching the entire eighteen-foot shark vertically into the air.

Choose Your Adrenaline Level – Fully Customized One-on-One Rides

Whether you want to push your physical limits or simply experience the unique sensation of skimming the water in a state-of-the-art machine, this fifteen-minute ride is tailored entirely to you. Because every trip is strictly one-on-one with a professional pilot, you can communicate exactly how intense you want the journey to be.

The Mild Experience

  • Cruising out of Queenstown Bay with stunning views of the Remarkables mountain range.
  • Smooth high-speed skimming across the liquid blue surface at speeds up to 80 kph.
  • Gentle banking turns and shallow dives to experience the unique dynamics of the watercraft.
  • A perfect introduction to the technology, offering an exciting ride without intense g-forces.

The Wild Experience

  • Heart-stopping underwater dives reaching depths of up to two meters for five to fifteen seconds.
  • Dramatic vertical launches exploding six meters straight out of the water into the air.
  • Side rolls at sharp 90-degree angles and tight high-speed doughnut turns.
  • Screaming re-entries that shatter the lake surface, guaranteed to get your heart pumping.

Inside the Seabreacher X: High-Tech Mechanics Meets Nature

Hydro Attack is the world’s very first commercial operator of the revolutionary Seabreacher X watercraft. This unique machine feels like a cross between a fighter jet and a torpedo, specifically designed to mimic the movements of a real shark.

Interesting Fact: The Mechanics of the Shark

The Seabreacher X features a high-performance engine that allows it to reach top speeds of 80 kph on the water surface and 40 kph when submerged underwater. The glass canopy is made from F-16 fighter-jet grade material, offering massive strength to withstand the pressure of diving and vertical launches.

As you dive beneath the surface, the watercraft relies on the air trapped inside the cabin and engine snorkels, meaning your dives are perfectly safe, controlled, and synchronized with the natural buoyancy of the craft.

Queenstown – The Adventure Capital Built Around Lake Wakatipu

Queenstown is the crown jewel of any South Island roadtrip itinerary. Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and framed by the rugged lines of the Remarkables mountain range, this alpine resort town of sixteen thousand residents is famous for its massive energy.

After your heart rate settles from the Hydro Attack ride, the central lakefront is the perfect place to unwind. Grab a coffee at a cozy lakeside café or join the queue for the legendary Fergburger to enjoy your meal right by the water. Whether you are exploring the region during the long summer days or stopping by during a winter ski trip, Queenstown delivers an unbeatable mix of natural beauty and thrills.

Fitting the Shark Ride Into Your South Island Itinerary

This 15 minute adrenaline blast fits perfectly into a well-paced travel plan, leaving you plenty of time to explore the rest of the region with your campervan.

If you are looking for more water-based excitement nearby, you can combine this with a jet boat tour through the narrow canyons just outside town. For a complete change of pace and rhythm the next day, you can point your campervan toward Fiordland, where the dramatic alpine passes lead you directly to a Milford Sound cruise.

Why do we love "Hydro Attack Queenstown Shark Ride – Semi-Submersible Adrenaline on Lake Wakatipu"

VANZ TRAVEL team

Chris says: I’ve done a lot of wild things while roadtripping through the South Island, but nothing prepares you for the moment the pilot drops the nose of the shark and you go completely underwater. For a few seconds, everything turns into this serene liquid blue through the glass canopy, and then suddenly, the engine roars and you are launched six meters straight up into the air. It feels like a mix between flying a fighter jet and being inside a torpedo. The best part is that you can literally tell the pilot to tone it down or go completely wild, so you get exactly the ride you want. If you are stopping your campervan in Queenstown and want an adrenaline rush that you will actually talk about for the rest of your trip, this is it.
