Description

Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and Kangaroos in the Yarra Valley

Leave the city behind and spend an afternoon exploring one of Victoria’s most celebrated wine regions. This 1 Day Premium Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne combines wine tasting, local produce and wildlife encounters, all within easy reach of the city.

The Yarra Valley wine region is famous for its cool-climate wines, beautiful vineyards and relaxed countryside atmosphere. On this small-group tour you’ll discover some of the region’s most loved places while travelling through rolling hills, vineyards and farmland.

The experience begins at Federation Square in Melbourne, where you meet your guide before heading towards the Yarra Valley. The drive itself already gives you a glimpse of why this region is one of the most popular wine destinations near Melbourne.

Cheese Tasting at Yarra Valley Dairy

The first stop celebrates one of the region’s finest local products – artisanal cheese. At Yarra Valley Dairy, you’ll taste a selection of locally produced cheeses, from creamy soft varieties to rich, mature flavours.

Set among peaceful farmland, this stop offers the perfect introduction to the food culture of the Yarra Valley and prepares your palate for the wine tastings that follow.

Sparkling Wine at Domaine Chandon

Next, the tour continues to the elegant Domaine Chandon, one of the most famous wineries in the Yarra Valley. Known for its sparkling wines, this estate offers stunning views over the surrounding vineyards.

You can relax with a glass of sparkling wine while enjoying the scenery. For those who wish, oysters or additional tasting options can also be purchased at the winery lounge.

Wine Tasting at Historic Yering Station

The journey then leads to Yering Station, Victoria’s oldest vineyard and one of the most historic wineries in Australia.

Here you’ll taste a selection of cool-climate Yarra Valley wines, including their well-known Shiraz Viognier. Surrounded by vineyards and historic buildings, this stop gives a deeper insight into the region’s winemaking traditions.

Chocolate Tasting at Yarra Valley Chocolaterie

No visit to the Yarra Valley would be complete without something sweet. At the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, you’ll enjoy a private chocolate tasting while learning about the craft of chocolate making.

From rich cocoa flavours to delicate pralines, this stop is a favourite among travellers exploring the Yarra Valley food scene.

Kangaroo Spotting at Sunset

As evening approaches, the tour moves into a quieter part of the valley where wildlife often appears at dusk.

This is the perfect time to look for wild kangaroos in their natural habitat. Watching kangaroos grazing in open fields as the sun sets over the vineyards becomes one of the most memorable moments of the day.

Return to Melbourne

After a relaxed afternoon of wine tasting, cheese, chocolate and wildlife, the tour returns to Melbourne. Sit back and enjoy the drive back to the city while the landscapes of the Yarra Valley wine region slowly fade into the distance.

Arrival at Federation Square is usually around 7:00 – 7:30 PM where you finish your 1 Day Premium Yarra Valley Wine Tour.

Why do we love "1 Day Premium Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne – Wine, Cheese, Chocolate & Kangaroos"

VANZ TRAVEL team

Chris says: I did this Yarra Valley tour recently and honestly it turned out to be one of those afternoons that just flows naturally. You leave Melbourne, and within an hour the scenery changes completely. Vineyards, green hills and small farms start to appear everywhere. What I really liked about this tour is the balance. It’s not just wine tasting after wine tasting. You start with local cheese, then sparkling wine at Chandon with beautiful views, later proper wine tasting at Yering Station, and finally chocolate. Each stop feels a little different and gives you a taste of what the Yarra Valley is really about. If you’re visiting Melbourne and want to see a famous Australian wine region without rushing, this is a really nice way to spend an afternoon. Good wine, great local food, beautiful scenery and a few kangaroos along the way.
